High-dose Herbs Damage Sperm
St. John's wort and echinacea damaged sperm DNA and compromised sperm viability. Only the high concentration of St. John's wort was associated with a point mutation of the BRCA1 gene. Saw palmetto was the only herb that did not have a negative effect on penetration.


St John's wort - a natural remedy for depression?
The U.K.'s Medicines Control Agency issued a warning on March 1st 2000 that patients who are on a long list of drugs should stop taking St John's wort until they have consulted their GP or pharmacist. Medications for asthma, epilepsy, depression, migraine and heart problems are all implicated.


Study questions St. John's Wort's effectiveness
DURHAM, North Carolina (CNN) -- St. John's Wort, a popular herbal supplement, is not effective in treating cases of major depression, according to a study released Tuesday.
