St. John's wort and echinacea damaged sperm DNA and compromised sperm viability.
Only the high concentration of St. John's wort was associated with a point
mutation of the BRCA1 gene. Saw palmetto was the only herb that did not have a
negative effect on penetration.
St John's wort - a natural remedy for depression?
The U.K.'s Medicines Control Agency issued a warning on March 1st 2000 that patients who are on a long list of drugs should stop taking St John's wort until they have consulted their GP or pharmacist. Medications for asthma, epilepsy, depression, migraine and heart problems are all implicated.
